Music connects us to moments of madness and magic #gratitude

Day 77 of #LiveWell2017

Day 77 Music

I’ve always loved music. From the piano lessons I took as a child, to the concerts I still attend as an adult, music is the soundtrack to my life. It makes me feel deeper and expresses my emotions in ways nothing else can. Like most people, I’ve marked special moments in my life with special songs and performances – from my first solo public performance singing “Sunshine on my shoulders” to dancing to “Strangers in the night” at my wedding. My “Sunshine” performance was nothing stellar, musically, but it was a defining moment in my relationship with my brother. “Strangers in the night” may seem like a strange song for a wedding reception, but it was the perfect, private joke between me and my new spouse. I’m so grateful that music has been such a big part of my life.

I’ve listened to most every genre, from country, pop, and metal to R&B, Americana, and classical – each has a special place in my heart and in my life. My “favorites” list is as eclectic as David Bowie’s personas, and every song is a plot point in the story of my life. Here are just a few…

  • The Wings that Fly Us Home by John Denver
  • Learning to Live by Dream Theater
  • I and Love and You by The Avett Brothers
  • At Last by Etta James
  • Imagine by John Lennon
  • Handful of Rain by Savatage
  • The Planets by Holst
  • One Love by Bob Marley
  • We Got Love by The Talbott Brothers
  • One by U2

Yeah, that’s just a tiny snippet of my favorites list….and yes, it’s eclectic. There’s more – much more. Many more songs in the soundtrack of my life. The point is, music is the thread that weaves through every segment of life, connecting moments of madness and magic, making us feel deeply and understand clearly how we are all connected.

Thank you to all the musicians, composers and songwriters who bring music to our lives every single day.

What are your favorite tunes?
