Got skills? Give them away…

Day 104 of #LiveWell2017

Day 104 give talent

Being generous is about giving of yourself. If you don’t have a lot of money to give, then your skills are your currency. Everybody has skills. Using them to help others is a special way to give.

Good with your hands? How about helping to build a Habitat for Humanity house? Knit a rectangle for newborns, women in shelters, nursing homes and people experiencing homelessness through WarmUpAmerica.

Pro Bono work – During the great recession and afterwards, I saw signs in a couple of dry cleaner windows that read “If you are unemployed and need clothes cleaned for a job interview, we’ll do it for free.” Pretty sweet. Lawyer? How about giving your time to a nonprofit or free legal aide to people in need. Writer? A lot of charities need help writing newsletters, fundraising letters, grant proposals, and other forms of communication.

Even scientists can give their expertise as an on-call scientist for the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Can you mow lawns or rake leaves for the elderly in your neighborhood? What about cooking a meal for someone recovering from illness?

If you have a skill, someone may need it. Check your community for opportunities.
